Employment Law

In the current climate, it is critical for employers to understand their responsibilities and potential liabilities with respect to employment law matters. To best serve our multinational corporate clients, Yorozu Law Group has developed a strong employment law counseling practice. We have particular expertise advising Japanese employers and their U.S. subsidiaries on U.S. and California employment law matters. Members of our bilingual legal team have worked in Japan and the United States, so we have a clear understanding of Japanese, U.S., and California employment laws and cultural differences and can interpret U.S. and California employment laws and practices in a meaningful way to our clients.

Our comprehensive employment law practice includes advice across a broad range of areas, including compensation and benefits, data privacy, discrimination, disciplinary procedures, EEO compliance, employment contracts, employment status, expatriate issues, hiring, performance evaluations, pre- and post-employment restrictions, recruitment, reductions in force, severance packages, sexual harassment, and termination.

We believe that development and implementation of effective employment programs provides the optimum environment for employers and employees. Working closely with our clients’ management, in-house counsel, and human resources department, we focus on creating and establishing a company culture that proactively addresses employment issues and is responsive to employee concerns and complaints. Areas where we provide advice include the following:

• Developing employment law best practices, policies, and procedures
• Providing training and seminars on timely, relevant topics, such as sexual harassment and discrimination
• Issuing memos on new employment laws applicable to clients
• Conducting employment law audits and identifying risks
• Integrating employment policies following cross-border acquisitions

We focus on forward-thinking counseling and advice to avoid escalation of employment law issues. But, should employment issues arise that necessitate mediation or litigation, we have relationships with employment litigation firms and work closely with them to help resolve our clients’ matters as efficiently as possible.
